THIS is How to Trust God!
I am going to go ahead and start with the answer, ok? To know God is to trust Him. There you go. THIS is how to trust God!
Read on, if you want to learn how to KNOW God so you can TRUST Him.
If we want to know God, we must:
Recognize that sin separates us from him.
It’s hard to know and trust God when we are actively going against his wishes. Sin separates us from God. Understanding that truth opens us up for reformation.
but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. -Isaiah 59:2
Understand that Jesus paid the price for our sin.
It’s called grace. We are saved by grace through faith. Jesus died on the cross to pay for the sins of his people. Even you and me. Those that believe can live in assurance that, even with the constant battle with sin, we are forgiven.
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not by your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, that no one may boast. -Ephesians 2:8-9
Turn away from sin and ask for forgiveness.
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, -Acts 3:19
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. -1 John 1:9
We can’t keep choosing to go against God’s will and expect to trust Him. That just doesn’t make sense. And we can’t move into a place of freedom and love if we are still living in darkness and sin. We have to stop making poor choices and start following God.
Receive him as Savior.
Jesus is the bridge to God. This is the narrow truth that we Christians believe.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son; that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16
God made a way for us to know him and be with him forever, through his son, Jesus. And Jesus is the ultimate example for us in all things. He made himself human so he could taste life as a human. Jesus understands our pains. He has felt the hurts. Our Lord has compassion on us. Even Jesus, in his human form, cried out to the Father for help and guidance. So, we can place our trust in God in the same way, seeking him quietly for refuge and strength.
To trust in God in the light is nothing, but to trust in Him in the dark. That is faith. -C.H. Spurgeon
Practically speaking, one important way to get to know God is to spend time in the Bible as much as possible. It’s his love letter to us. Another avenue to knowing God is through prayer. If you want to trust God, get to know Him. You won’t be disappointed.
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. -Isaiah 40:31
